About the Plebeian Tribunal
Our Mission
The Plebeian Tribunal of South Africa is dedicated to restoring constitutional sovereignty and protecting the divine and inalienable rights of all South African citizens. We serve as a constitutional check on government power, ensuring that all branches of government adhere to the principles established in the South African Constitution.
Our primary mission is to uphold the Constitution as the supreme law of the land and ensure that all laws, government actions, and institutions comply with it. We believe that the sovereignty of the people is paramount and that government institutions exist to serve the people, not to rule over them.
Constitutional Foundation
The Plebeian Tribunal is founded on the principles established in the South African Constitution, which is both the supreme law of the land and a legal international treaty document. The Constitution establishes a clear hierarchy of law and rights:
- Chapter 2 (Bill of Rights) enshrines the divine and inalienable rights of individuals
- Chapter 3 and subsequent chapters establish organs of state and government
- All laws, government actions, and institutions must comply with the Constitution
When government organs fail to uphold their constitutional duties or violate the rights of citizens, the Plebeian Tribunal serves as a mechanism for the people to assert their sovereignty and restore constitutional order.
Our Structure
The Plebeian Tribunal consists of appointed Tribunes who are committed to upholding constitutional principles and protecting citizens' rights. These Tribunes are selected based on their knowledge of constitutional law, their commitment to justice, and their integrity.
The Tribunal operates independently of government influence and is accountable directly to the people of South Africa. Our proceedings are transparent, and our findings are made public to ensure accountability and to educate citizens about their constitutional rights.
